The Wood Menagerie

  • Date iconNovember 22 2011 - March 10 2012
  • Curator(s): Amitai Mendelsohn
  • Woodcuts, wood sculptures
  • : Rudi Lehmann
German-born Rudi Lehmann (1977-1908) was a sculptor and printmaker. His numerous woodcuts and sculptures, most of which represent animals, manage to convey the essence of their subject in a distilled, tender, naive and human way. Though he never achieved wide recognition, Lehmann influenced generations of artists, and his remarkable sculptures make him one of the most important Israeli sculptors of his time. On view here are wood sculptures and woodcuts created mainly during the 1950s and 1960s.
