Special Display: 9/11
- September 11 2021 - January 15 2022
- Curator: Tamara Abramovitch
- Designer: Michal Aldor
A decade after the tragedy of September 11, two Israeli artists living in the USA responded to its enduring yet fragile memory in works that integrate past and present. This special display showcases photographic works by Shai Kremer and Assaf Shaham, in commemoration of the horrific events that took place twenty years ago.
Kremer’s abstract cityscapes are a palimpsest: images from 9/11 superimposed on combined photographs he shot at the Ground Zero construction site between 2011 and 2013. Shaham’s uncanny manipulation of a postcard in which the Twin Towers loom over Lower Manhattan seems foreshadow their fate while conjuring up a glorious past.
