Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka: Masterpieces from ALBERTINA

  • Date iconMay 30 2024 - September 14 2024
  • Curator: Tanya Sirakovich

The Israel Museum is honored to present a major exhibition featuring some one hundred artworks by three renowned Viennese artists – Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka. On display will be a large holding of rarely seen drawings on loan from the exceptional collection of the ALBERTINA Museum in Vienna, alongside selected paintings and drawings from the collections of the Israel Museum and Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

The exhibition will trace the unique voice of each of these three artists who captured the spirit of their time and place – early-20th-century Vienna – and its shifting societal values. In their provocative depictions of the human body, their insights into gender relations and sexual identity, and their exploration of existential loneliness, Klimt, Schiele, and Kokoschka reflected the alienation and anxiety of a transformative era.
