There are stories that never lose their power.

On Rosh Hashanah, along with the prayers and soul-searching, we have the Torah reading of the Akedah, the Binding of Isaac, a drama about redemptive faith and devotion. Many artists were inspired by this story, relating in their work to the victim’s pain, the desperate hope of a miracle, and even subjects like economic hardship or dedication to a cause.

The Israel Museum and Beit Avi Chai present the latest episode in the “Point of View” series: a focus on depictions of the Akedah in visual art.

What connects the prophet Jonah to modern artists?

We see in different artworks that their creators identified with this prophet who, against his will, was sent on a mission to humanity. But he had no choice: it was his destiny. Even though they are not always willing, prophets must carry out their mission.

The Israel Museum and Beit Avi Chai invite you to view a special Yom Kippur episode in the “Point of View” series.

Today we can have an instant sukkah delivered at the click of a mouse, but it wasn’t always so simple. The Israel Museum’s collections include a wooden sukkah smuggled to Jerusalem from Nazi Germany, a miniature sukkah kit for children, and decorative sukkah panels.

The Israel Museum and Beit Avi Chai invite you to view a special Sukkot episode in the “Point of View” series.
