Arts/Modern Art

The brilliant and spirited British dramatist George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) was an outstanding champion of Epstein's work. While sitting for the artist, Shaw made witty remarks and gave his unsolicited views on art, most of which Epstein rejected. He created two versions of the portrait, with and without shoulders.
