Jan Christian Smuts (1870-1950), South African statesman, soldier and philisopher, was a longstanding Zionist supporter and a friend of Chaim Weizmann. Smuts helped formulate the Balfour Declaration and found the League of Nations and the United Nations. This impressive, oversized head was part of a complete figure commissioned for Parliament Square, London.
