Moritz Daniel Oppenheim: The First Jewish Painter
Moritz Daniel Oppenheim – “the Rothschild’s painter and the Rothschild of painters” – came to represent the emancipation of German Jews in the nineteenth century, though his paintings depicting traditional Jewish life have been mostly forgotten.
The film will be followed by a discussion with director Isabelle Gathof and Shlomit Steinberg, curator of European Art.
