Dear Visitors,
As we enter 2012, we continue to celebrate the strength of our collection displays, exhibitions, and programs, all within the setting of our beautifully renewed campus - with six new exhibitions having opened in November and December alone. In March, we open the next annual exhibition in our Youth Wing for Art Education, Good Night, offering a family exhibition experience. And of course all visitors are welcome to enjoy our seasonal program of lectures, performances, and special events at the Museum and at Ticho House.
On every front, we are continuing to explore the potential of our new landscape in every possible way - even taking our Dead Sea Scrolls to new technological heights by launching them, powered by Google, in ultra-high resolution on the Museum's website, drawing more than one million virtual visitors from over 200 countries in less than four days.
We thank you all for your ongoing support and participation and look forward to seeing you in the weeks and months ahead.
With warmest wishes for 2012,
James S. Snyder
Anne and Jerome Fisher Director

Though he never achieved wide recognition, Lehmann influenced generations of artists, and his remarkable sculptures make him one of the most important Israeli sculptors of his time...In the Ticho House

Offering Sacrifices
The expression "to seize the horns of the altar" traces its origin to the ancient custom whereby criminals seeking refuge would hold onto this sanctified part of the altar to avoid punishment. Such horns are clearly visible in this First-Temple-Period altar, which was probably used for burnt animal offerings in a Judahite shrine in the city of Beersheba. |
