Summertime: celebrating summer, the Museum will be open on both Tuesday and Wednesday evenings until 9 pm.

James Turrell: Light Spaces
In honor of James Turrell's 70th birthday, one of the giants of contemporary art, the Israel Museum is proud to present a new exhibition comprised of 50 multi-sensory and exciting original works by the artist of light and its variations. The works by this renowned American artist were selected from amongst those in a travelling retrospective organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for this occasion which has been marked by museums throughout the world, including The Guggenheim Museum in NY and The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. Besides the impressive light installations, the exhibition will include light projections, sculpture models, prints and design plans indicating significant and exciting states in Turrell's artistic development which examine light as phenomenon, and as material.

Clipa Visual Theater Group presents a special performance in the Israel Festival

The work FOREVER/NEVER rests on the blurry line between performance, dance and visual art and presents a string of seductive and tantalizing images that arouse associations between beauty and violence. The site-specific work of disturbing and shocking scenes is shown as a continuous movement loop in the covered passage at the entrance corridor of The Museum and allows the viewer to choose the duration of viewing and its course.

Unfolding Worlds: Japanese Screens from the Gitter-Yelen Collection

Family Time

Landscapes, the passing of the seasons, urban scenes, as well as mythological and literary narrative themes -- all these and more are painted to the finest detail with delicate brushstrokes and spectacular compositions in the 16 screens in this exhibition, the first of its type to be seen in Israel. The screens, called Byōbu in Japanese, reveal the richness and quality of Japanese art and present a chance to assess the cultural attitudes of the time they were created – between the start of the 17th century through the 20th century.

Eija-Liisa Ahtila
Finnish artist Eija-Liisa Ahtila undertakes an ambitious task: to document and photograph a spruce tree measuring over ten meters high, and to present it in its natural size. Due to the large scale of the spruce, the artist chose a presentation that is a departure from the conventional perception of a tree: rather than vertical, Ahtila's tree is horizontal. Our encounter with this work allows us to closely examine a familiar reality from an unfamiliar perspective.
