Yavneh Iron Age II, 9th century BCE Pottery Israel Antiquities Authority Accession number: IAA 2006-1035 |

This model was buried in a pit outside a Philistine shrine together with other, similar models. Worshipers brought them there as gifts to the gods. When too many accumulated, they were removed, intentionally broken so that they could not be reused for secular purposes, and carefully buried. The function of these objects is not clear. Digital presentation of this object was made possible by: The Ridgefield Foundation, New York, in memory of Henry J. and Erna D. Leir |
