The coins sewn onto this head ornament date from the Hijra (Islamic) years 1299–1329, which correspond to 1881–1911. The six- and eight-sided star motifs featuring on the coins were prevalent throughout North Africa and the Islamic lands, and do not necessarily represent the Star of David. Digital presentation of this object was made possible by: The Ridgefield Foundation, New York, in memory of Henry J. and Erna D. Leir |
