The white dress worn by brides throughout the world is a sign of modernization. Such dresses have their origins in Europe and in the Christian church. In the early 19th century, as western influence became dominant, the image of the bride dressed in white as a symbol of purity spread around the world, replacing the multicolored bridal gowns of old that had previously set communities apart.
