New York Artist: Ilya Schor, born Poland, active in France and USA, 1904–1961 Gold and silver, both pierced and engraved Artist's mark Dedication inscription in Yiddish [on interior base] stating that the item was prepared in honor of the wedding of artist Mane-Katz; inscribed on the sides in Hebrew – "Your father and mother will rejoice; she who bore you will exult." [Proverbs 23:25); "Congratulations"; "Mirth and gladness, bridegroom and bride" – and in Yiddish: "Bride, bride, weep; life is bitter as bitter herbs" H: 3.6; L: 9; W: 6.2 cm The Stieglitz Collection was donated to the Museum with the contribution of Erica and Ludwig Jesselson, New York, to American Friends of the Israel Museum Accession number: B86.0236 ; 131/054 |
