Egyptian jar bearing a pharaoh’s name

This jar fragment is inscribed with the name of the Egyptian pharaoh Narmer, unifier of Egypt and founder of the First Dynasty. Such jars, discovered throughout southern Canaan, indicate that at least some of the trade with Egypt was under royal auspices.
