A George III mahogany three-tier Dumb Waiter. Towards the end of a meal, the head of the house would dismiss the servants and everything which might be required by those at the table, was placed upon the Dumb Waiter. This was then wheeled from person to person offering glasses of port or brandy - which is how the term "dumb waiter" first originated.
