A common method of decorating buildings was to face the inner and outer walls with ceramic tiles of varying shapes. Each tile was carefully designed down to the smallest detail, even though the individual tile bore only a small part of the big picture, and would ultimately be part of a vast ornamental array. Secular public buildings were decorated with scenes of the courtly activities, such as the hunt.
