Plate depicting a drinking party in the Sassanian-Persian Style
Iran or Iraq
Silver, partially gilt
Diam: 24 cm
Gift of Marion Hammer, Jerusalem - Zurich
Accession number: 2002.110.77
The main figure, larger than the others, is a monarch seated on a throne. His posture – one leg crossed over the other – is typical of portrayals of oriental kings. The monarch wears the crown of a Sassanian king, and he is holding a cup of wine, another symbol of power.
