Archaic period, mid 6th-century BCE
H: 9.5; W: 3.5 cm
Bequest of Norbert Schimmel, New York, to American Friends of the Israel Museum
Accession number: 91.71.326
This figurine was part of an equestrian group, a widespread theme in the Archaic and Clasical periods. In his pierced fists, the rider would have probably held the reins and a riding crop. Small bronze horse-and-rider statuettes were usually temple dedications.
