The cult of Harpocrates was one of the popular mystery cults in Ptolemaic Egypt and Rome. Endowed with the magical powers of his mother Isis, Harpocrates personified the renewal of nature in Spring. As in ancient Egypt, he continued to be represented as a young boy with a sidelock and a finger in his mouth.
