New in the Collection

December 30, 2014-February 28, 2015

Location: Spertus Gallery

Eliezer Sonnenschein, Ben Hagari

Curator: Aya Miron

Media: Video, digital print, offset print

Among the most prominent works added to the Museum's collections this year are 59 remarkable compositions by Israeli artist Eliezer Sonnenschein depicting local  wildflowers and insects, and a new video work by Ben Hagari. The result of four years of extensive research, Sonnenschein's ambitious project,  which also involved the naming of many species in Arabic, includes a sumptuous edition and an annotated one, the latter featuring -  in addition to the photographs - sketches, notes, and scientific information in the artists hand. Fresh, Hagari's humourous video work, screened in large-scale projection, presents the artists as a "vegetable man" who undergoes a series of bizarre experiences featuring a symphony of vegetables, a chef, and a polygraph technician who explores whether plants have feelings.
