Lady in Bed, 1973, by George Segal (1924-2000): Lady in Bed is an evocative, lyrical example of the artist's mature work, and one of an extensive series of sculptures in which he explores the theme of the nude in intimate surroundings. Segal first developed the method of casting from live models, which became his trademark, in 1961. He was best known for his work in this medium depicting down-to-earth scenes of humble characters in urban environments.
