Woven Treasures - Pre-Columbian Textiles from South America

April 1, 1999-January 1, 2001
Location: Special Gallery for the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas
Curator: Yvonne Fleitman
Media: Textiles
Remarkable, colorful textiles and related artworks belonging to the ancient cultures of the Andes. Valued not only as garments but also for their ritual and symbolic significance, these pieces represent the creative styles of the Paracas, Nazca, Moche, Huari, Chancay, and Chimu cultures, from 700 BCE to the Inca conquest in the mid-15th century.
