Johann Joachim Kaendler, German, 1706-1775. A rare white porcelain sculpture designed by artist Johann Joachim Kaendler, master-modeler of the Meissen porcelain factory, near Dresden. Commissioned by Augustus the Strong, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, the sculpture was intended for his "Japanese Palace", where a collection of white porcelain large-scale animal and bird sculptures was displayed.
