This exquisite painting was executed by Meijer Jacob de Haan, a Jewish Dutch artist connected to the circles of Gauguin and van Gogh. The painting, which bears the influence of 17th-century Dutch art, was sold after World War II by the family of the artist to its current owner, and is now on loan at the Museum.
