THE PIANO, 2013
Plywood, black matte varnish, three linoleum rolls with felt-tip pen, vinyl records

This oversized white-keyed piano, fitted with three cylinders that recall Tibetan prayer wheels, suggests a colossal player piano standing on its side. Black lines jut up and down along the cylinders like a seismographic reading. These drawings are a visual translation of sound: hours of conversations among members of her family, recorded over the years by Sasportas and encrypted as marks that convey the rhythm, volume, silences, and emotional intensity of those conversations.
