Library Drawings

In 1995, Ullman created Library, one of the most famous artworks made by an Israeli artist, on Bebelplatz square in the heart of Berlin: Library

Ullman created drawings, which he used to define the implications, plans, and form of the sculpture. They present the smoky impression created by the reflection of the clouds in the window; evoke in the underground concrete space something akin to a "Noah's Ark" floating atop the groundwater of Berlin; and reflect the light that flickers from the sculpture, lighting the dim square at night and flooding it with a whirlwind of contradictory feelings regarding light and darkness, and good and bad.

One of Ullman's earlier drawings Apartment Building* (1970) appears on the adjoining wall in the exhibition. Compare the layout of the shelves in the drawings to the composition of this painting.

רישומי ספרייה

רישומי ספרייה הם רישומים המתייחסים לעבודתו המפורסמת משנת 1995 "ספרייה". באמצעות רישומים אלה ניסה אולמן להגדיר את ההשלכות התוכניות והצורניות של הפסל. הם מוסרים את רושם העשן בתוכו שנוצר מהשתקפות העננים בחלון, את היות תיבת הבטון התת-קרקעית מעין "תיבת נוח" שכמו צפה על פני מי התהום של ברלין, את האור המבליח מן הפסל ומאיר את אפלת הכיכר בלילה ומציף מערבולת של תחושות סותרות בקשר לאור וחושך, טוב ורע.

בקיר הסמוך בתערוכה תלוי ציור מוקדם של אולמן מ-1970 המתאר בית משותף*. השוו בין מתווה המדפים שברישומים לקומפוזיציה של הציור הזה.
