Esther Knobel

Esther Knobel has maintained a prolific output over the past thirty years that is constantly evolving, defining and redefining the concept of preciousness. Trained as a jeweler, Knobel creates work distinguished by its inventive approach to technique and its daring choice of materials. Her interest in color goes back to her earlier studies in painting and is expressed through techniques ranging from anodizing aluminum and titanium to painting on tin cans and fabric and to enameling on copper. Knobel’s work is concerned with wearability and the scale of the body. Her work process brings to mind an archaeologist, digging deeper and deeper into personal and collective memory. Knobel creates objects that are at once simple and complex, maintaining a balance between the colorful and humorous and the serious and morbid. Her work consists of fragments taken from daily life that seem to shed a poignant light on the fragile truth of the mundane. Knobel gained wide international acclaim for her contribution to a new way of thinking in the area of jewelry.

יצירתה הפורייה של אסתר קנובל, המתפתחת בהתמדה זה 30 שנה, שבה ומגדירה את המושג "יקר". היא צורפת בהכשרתה, ועבודותיה משקפות גישה מקורית לטכניקה ובחירה נועזת של חומרים. עניינה הרב בצבע יונק מלימודי הציור שעשתה בראשית דרכה ובא לידי ביטוי במגוון הטכניקות המשמשות אותה, החל באלומיניום וטיטניום מאולגנים, דרך ציור על פחיות ואריגים ועד זיגוג אמייל על נחושת. עבודתה עוסקת במושג  ה"לבישות" ובמידת הגוף, ואילו תהליך העבודה מזכיר את עבודת  הארכאולוג; כמוהו, גם היא חודרת אל שכבות הזיכרון האישי והקיבוצי ומרכיבה את  יצירותיה מפיסות של חיי היומיום המגלות את האמת השברירית של השגרתי והבנאלי. האובייקטים שהיא יוצרת פשוטים ומורכבים, רציניים והומוריסטיים, צבעוניים ומורבידיים בעת אחת. תרומתה של קנובל לחשיבה החדשה בצורפות זיכתה אותה בהכרה בינלאומית רחבה.
