The summer heat wave known in French as canicule (dog days) struck Europe with terrible force in 2003, when Nira Pereg filmed at an improvised shower that had been installed in a Parisian street to provide a brief respite from the unbearable weather. The scene was shot in slow motion, and the red drizzle superimposed on it adds an apocalyptic dimension, evoking the threat of nuclear fallout or of the extreme climatic changes that may result from global warming.
