After the Sabbath meal or at the end of the Sabbath, it is customary for the Admor (head of a Hasidic court) to sit at the table (tish) and for his followers to crowd around him. Participating in the Rebbe's tish is considered an enormous privilege, and Hasidim will come from the ends of the earth just to sit near their Rebbe.
Huge loaves are baked for his tish and the Admor recites a blessing over them, leaving the sherayim ("remainders") for his Hasidim. These remainders are believed to have amuletic powers insuring prosperity and curing sickness, which is why Hasidic Jews make every effort to obtain even a crumb of the Rebbe's bread.
