It is customary
to see Israeli art as beginning with the founding of the Bezalel Art
School in Jerusalem in 1906. The teachers who were brought to the
school from Europe are considered the first Israeli artists. The history
of Israeli art since reflected the upheavals of Israeli history and
the changes in the Israeli's sense of identity. The Israel Museum
is committed to the documenting of Israeli art and to the dissemination
of information about it.
