The goal
of the founding fathers of the new national museum was not only to
provide a comprehensive encounter with the cultural heritage of the
Jewish people and Israel, but at the same time to offer the public
a window on world culture. It fell to the Arts Wing to fulfil this
noble task. It is no accident, therefore, that the Art Wing comprises
nine distinct curatorial departments reflecting this universal approach
to its collections: European Art, Prints and Drawings, Israeli Art,
Modern Art, Contemporary Art, Design and Architecture, Photography,
East AsianArt, and the Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas. The
Wing is also responsible for the Art Garden.
