The Israel Museum's Archaeology Wing is currently closed for comprehensive renewal and will reopen to the public in 2009-2010. The Wing, named for Samuel and Saidye Bronfman, is being renewed with support from their son, Charles Bronfman, his children, and his grandchildren.

The new permanent display will reveal the story of the Land of Israel through its unique archaeology. Embracing some 8,000 objects over 4,000 square meters of gallery space, it will present the cultures of the Land in seven chapters, from Prehistory through Biblical and Herodian times to the Islamic period, together with an accompanying display of the neighboring civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, Greece, and Rome. Special galleries will also be devoted to ancient glass, coins, and Hebrew script.

During this period of renewal, aspects of Israel's archaeological heritage are on view elsewhere on the Museum's campus - at the Shrine of the Book and the Model of Jerusalem in the Second Temple Period, and in displays of archaeological holdings throughout the Museum's grounds.
